Step 1: Make the necessary plans

When you have everything, you need, carefully put the ladder on a stable spot of the ground as close to the clogged gutter's downspout as you can. Climb up on the roof so you can easily reach the downspout's top. If your roof is very steep, you may need to use a rope and a safety harness. Be patient as you figure out the best way to get to the roof.

 

Step 2: Clean the gutter that is clogged

To start cleaning, start with the area around the downspout. Start there and work your way out. When you find trash, could you pick it up and put it in a bucket? This will make it easier to clean up after the job when it's done. You might find it easier and safer to throw away any trash you see on the ground and clean it all up later. When doing this, you should wear gloves because sharp twigs may be stuck in the gutter. Many downspouts also have rough edges and screws that stick out of them that can't be seen.

 

Step 3: Use the hose and scraper

Some trash at the bottom and edge of the gutter may be hard to get rid of. Here, you should use the scraper to get rid of it and the hose to help get the dirt loose. This will make it much easier to do the job. Broken shingles, leaves, and twigs can collect in the gutters and get stuck there. A high-pressure water jet will help; in many cases, it is the only practical way to clean out the gutters. It would help if you had a hose with a handle that you could use to turn it on and off. If the connection at the end of the hose lets you change the water pressure, it will make the job even more accessible. Do the job in a planned route, so you don't miss anything.

 

Step 4: Clean the downspout that is clogged

It is much harder to clean the downspout than to clean the gutters. Luckily, the water running down the downspout is usually enough to clean it. You'll have to use other tools to get the stuff inside out if it doesn't. Sometimes, you might even have to take the section apart to get it out of the way.
